UJAMAA was approved has completed several projects at Loretto Hospital in Chicago, IL as a general contractor in a design-bid-build delivery model and construction manager for the hospital. They lasted many years with varying degrees of difficulty and technical complexity. The project scopes include the expansion and new Kimberly Lightfoot Emergency Room and Parking Lot Addition, to several renovations in the hospital that included patient rooms, operating rooms, CT SCAN and Xray Rooms, etc. Some project examples include:

Heat Pump Replacement/Transformer Renovation: Removal and replacement of existing heat pumps, piping, controls, and equipment. Removal and replacement of the main transformer. Install new heat exchanger and Building Automation System installed by Interactive Solutions Control. Installed a new transformer and switchgear to increase hospital electrical capacity.

Critical Care Unit (CCU) Renovation: The scope encompassed the comprehensive renovation of the existing CCU patient rooms, nurse’s station, and patient services areas. UJAMAA installed new examination lighting, flooring, ceiling, millwork, and finishes to complete the upgrade. UJAMAA forces self-performed the demolition, carpentry, and drywall for this healthcare assignment.

UJAMAA, together with joint venture partner Bully and Andrews, provided the construction services for the Emergency Room (ER) Renovation and Expansion at Loretto Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. The scope encompassed the comprehensive renovation of the existing 7,000 SF space to include a new dedicated entrance, waiting area, lobby, and covered area for ambulances. UJAMAA also completed an 8,000 SF addition to expanding the capacity of the ER and numerous innovative patient-centered upgrades to improve the quality of patient care. UJAMAA installed new examination lighting, flooring, ceiling, millwork, and finishes to complete the assignment.UJAMAA forces self-performed the general labor trades in shift work to maintain patient services at this fully operational healthcare facility

5-West Patient Room Renovation: The scope encompassed the comprehensive renovation and upgrade of 20 patient rooms, support staff space, and patient services areas. UJAMAA also installed a new Makeup Air Unit (MHU) and an exhaust system. This project was completed in four separate construction phases, with each phase securing the necessary IDPH and City of Chicago inspections before the following phase could begin.UJAMAA forces self-performed the demolition, drywall, rough and finish carpentry, and doors and hardware installation for this healthcare assignment.

UJAMAA was awarded the Surgery Suite HVAC replacement AHU, an extremely difficult and important infrastructure upgrade project at Loretto Hospital with a budget of $405,000. The replace with a Trane PCC Air Handling Unit, with a Multistack Modular Chiller with remote Air Cooled Condenser. The project included several single duct VAV boxes with water reheat coils, exhaust fans, and humidifiers. The project included upgraded electrical service and all associated piping and structural work.
