Project Description

Completed by the joint venture of Power/UJAMAA, the project included construction of a new 350,000sf multi-building complex at O’Hare International Airport for the City of Chicago and Federal Express. The project was delivered under a design‐bid‐build procurement.

The complex features a 300,000sf Sort Building, a 24,000sf 2‐story World Service Center Building and a 24,000sf Aircraft Maintenance Building. Significant sustainable features contributing to the LEED Silver certification on the World Service Center from the USGBC include: a 8,000sf green roof, 50% FSC Certified Wood, 20% recycled materials and 10% regional materials, 75% construction waste diverted from landfills, energy efficient air handling units, low flow water fixtures, independent commissioning, indoor air quality plan, storm water prevention and pollution plan.

The green roof on the Sort Building is 170,000sf. UJAMAA implemented a diversity contracting plan resulting in 36% of contracts to M/WBE firms, resulting in 39% minority journeyman, 56% minority apprentices, 72% minority laborers and 45% local residents.
